I’m Simply Scorin’ Somethin’ (CCMC170)

Do you have a Simply Scored tool yet? Well, you need one of these babies – they are AWESOME! I just can’t get enough of it. So when I saw the sketch challenge at Create with Connie and Mary this week, although I had some great card ideas, I just had to make a 3D item!

You’ll notice that the front of the box is in keeping with the sketch (sort of) and I had such fun making this project! Here is what I did (oh, by the way, this box is 3 1/2″ cubed).

Start with a 12″ x 5 1/2″ piece of cardstock. Score at 3 1/2″, 7″, 10 1/2″. Then take a another piece that is 5 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. I scored this at 1″ on the 5 1/2″ side and then 1/2″ on the 4 1/2″ side. This is the last panel as a 3 1/2″ cubed box takes a bit of a longer sheet of cardstock that 12″ x 12″. You know? Gettin’ all these numbers straight yet?

For the top lid, I took a 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of cardstock and scored it 1″ in all around. Here is how the box looks before it’s assembled:

You can see from the drawing that I cut in on the top flap edges and also notched out a bit. I then took my 2 1/2″ circle punch and punched through the front panel. Yes, the bottom is also punched but that is okay because once you are done, you’ll place the whole box on a 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ square.

I used Island Indigo for this box and stamped it with the large flower from Raining Flowers. I then made a fun floral embellishment.

I used my Fun Flowers die and cut out three Cherry Cobbler large flowers. I spritzed them with water and crumpled them and then they are adhered together. The centre is More Mustard cardstock punched with the 1″ circle punch, spritzed and scrunched and then adhered in place. I used my 2 Step Bird Punch and punched out leaves from Lucky Limeade.

To finish, I added a bow of Heirloom Designer Fabric and a banner stamped with a sentiment from Flight of the Butterfly.

As you can see, there are so many options with this week’s sketch at Create with Connie and Mary. Head on over and give it a try!
