Don’t You Forget About Me…..

I just love that song, don’t you? If I could title every blog post with a good ol’ 80s song, I would! But I used this title for two reasons. The first is that this card is an oldie but goodie that I learned so long ago and the stamp set/accessories I’ve used are retiring.

This is one of the projects I did at my Downline traning meeting last night and that I’ll be showcasing at retiring workshops this month.

This type of card is called “waterfall” and I’ve got some really quick and easy instructions. Which I’ll add below.

I used the following colours: Marina Mist, Real Red, Garden Green and Night of Navy. A bright and fun combination! I used the Cheers to You stamp set and instead of stamping and colouring it in, I’ve just stamped each image with a coordinating colour. This card is just pure happiness!

Here are the instructions:

This is a really cool card. The white squares are 1 3/4 x 1 3/4″ on top of 2″ x 2″ purple squares. They are glued to the a white 9″ x 2″ strip of cs that is scored at 2″, 2 3/4″, 3 1/2″ & 4 1/4″. Bend your strip so that the scored lines fold. Fold in half using the center score line as the top, with the scored lines facing front and the unscored part at the back. This is your mechanism. Stamp, color and attach your 4 squares just beneath each score line.

The purple strip is attached only just under the bottom stamped image ON TOP OF the fold over piece of scored cs — that is the only place that it’s glued. It’s very important NOT to put any glue/tombo/whatnot on the back of the strip, or it will not slide! The purple strip is attached with brads to the pink/purple layers.

Pull the ribbon tab and the images flow!

Speaking of pure happiness, I wanted to talk briefly about my wonderful downline. Now, although there was a Canucks game on last night, many of them came out to our monthly meeting at my home. We discussed what is new on the horizon with Stampin’ Up!, Convention, Swaps and more! Then we started on our make and take projects (the one above is the first of three which I’ll share with you).

Then, Carole (my Convention roomie) began a lovely speech. I didn’t know where she was going with it but soon figured it out. I was again an Artisan Award “loser” this year and although I swore it wouldn’t bother me, it did. But this is a bonus for you all because this means I can post my projects here! (which I’ll do over the next month or so).

Anyhow, my dear friends presented me with the one-and-only “Master Artisan” Award to celebrate my artistic adventures. I was thrilled, very honoured and touched to be a part of this wonderful group. I’m so glad they all chose me to be a part of not only their SU businesses but their lives.

Here is a photo of us (a little goofy, but that’s us!):

A Few Paralymic Memories

Well folks, I’ve just wiped the last of the tears away after watching the Paralympic closing ceremonies from Whistler. I didn’t think I’d get so emotional at the end of these games but with working in the athlete’s village, I have felt a real connection to the athletes of these games. Also, our family partook in so many more events during the Paralympics so I’m sure that had something to do with it too.

I thought I’d take a few minutes to share some of my memories with you all….

This photo was taken outside the bus entrance to the Vancouver Paralympic Village (where the athletes for sledge hockey and wheelchair curling lived). It was my first day and I was so excited by pretty much anything I saw!

This was taken inside the village – look at those Canadian flags – that is where the Canadian team was staying! Each country would hang their flags on their balconies, it looked so cool!

I took an extra volunteer shift to work the Opening Ceremonies – and this was my vantage point! Here is team Canada entering the building.

Here is my dear hubby up at Whistler trying out a sit ski while we watched some slalom racing.

I have so many photos that it would take a week of posts to get them all up to view! I’ll probably put up a few more……

I’m MIA because…

I’m a Paralympic Volunteer! Last week I started my shifts at the Paralympic Athlete’s Village (behind me in the photo) here in Vancouver and it has been amazing. The Opening Ceremonies for the games is this Friday and then the fun begins. My family is heading up to Whistler this weekend to watch the Super G ski event and take in the village and sights of the Paralympics up on the mountain and then it is back to working for me!

I’ll be doing all sorts of shifts ranging from early morning to very late at night (I’ve had to get up at 4:30 am every day this week so far!).

So, if you see very few posts over the next few weeks, I apologize but this is an opportunity I’ve been so excited about and I’m enjoying every second. I’ll most likely try to post a few things from different venues if I can but it is highly unlikely that I’ll get any time to do any crafting for a bit.

Have a great March and I hope you’ll keep coming back to see what I’m up to!

I’m Off to Disney!

I have been to Disneyland.

My  husband has been to Disneyland.

My children have not.

We leave today.

They don’t know.

I’ve loaded My Digital Studio so I can make up pages for a book and I hope to be awake enough in the evenings to share them with you all! I’ll be back next week! (I have done up a couple of posts however – I am getting back into the swing of things!!!)

I’m Almost BACK!

Hey Everyone! So we are in our new home and I just finished unpacking my craft room boxes. We are slowly getting all moved in.

Being in an older home, there seems to be more little things that need doing so I have had to leave my craft room until the very end. However, I have had classes almost each and every night of this move week!

So thank you very much for being patient with me, I’ll be posting again soon!

Today is Canada Day – a day to celebrate our great country.  We are planning on some awesome family time at the beach and my daughter has been feverishly making flags to put in our garden.

Today is also the first day of the new catalogue! Now, it doesn’t go live until 11am PST so you’ll all have to wait for the sidebar updates and my newsletter (no point in sending it out without proper links now….).

Have a wonderful day everyone and I’ll be back to posting new and great stuff soon!

The Countdown is ON!

I am super excited that the new Spring/Summer Idea Book and Catalogue will be launching later today!

As Stampin’ Up! has to transition all the amazing new items into their online ordering system, the new book will go live at 12 noon MST. At that time, I will post a link on my sidebar as well as a link to the Sale-A-Bration flyer and new Decor Element flyer!

I hope you’ll take a look and please comment and let me know what some of your fave new items are!

Stroke of Genius…..maybe

So I was up playing on my new computer last night (don’t know why I trash talked the MAC before, this thing ROCKS!) and I may have come up with my new blog header. I love it but need to tweek just a bit…..thought I’d share though and see what you all think as I do this whole blogging thing for YOU!

Drum roll…….

pixel1I have to figure out how to get a SU catalogue under her left arm and then I think I’ll be all set to go!

Don’t Stray too Far!

I know it’s been a few days since my last post but I’ve been upgraded to Mac from a PC and I’m bound and determined to get all my work done on this new wonderful piece of equipment!

My last program to conquer is the Adobe Photoshop program. I’ve uploaded a ton of photos but have not yet figured out how to add my watermark. So, as soon as Craig gets home tonight, I can get posting!

Also, I just wanted to share or get comments on something….as you may or may not have noticed, I use Stampin’ Up! exclusively on my blog. This is not going to change.

I have not (or at least only once or twice in the past) added sales like additions to my blog, ie. specials that SU is offering. I’m trying to decide if I want to add this in the future in the hopes of actually generating business from my blog. This was not something in my original plan when starting Artistic Avenger but I’m feeling the need to be more “business-like” this year.

So my question….would you still stop by if there were sales driven posts?

Thanks all and I promise these new posts are COMING SOON! Oh, and a new header is coming your way too!

You see right – I am off on vacation in Mexico. I’ll be back on November 29th. I had the best of intentions to post some great projects and have them run each and every day but I’m not quite there yet. We’ll see how much time I get the night before I leave. Otherwise, I’ll see you all upon my return!
