Patchwork Hearts (KKC09)

Time for another KKC challenge! Yeah! This time it’s all about the colour and what a challenge it is. A couple of neutrals, a bright and a regal!

I used River Rock for the base (this card is 3″ x 6″) and then I added a long panel of River Rock designer paper which I notched out a the end.

In honour of the upcoming Valentine’s Day, I decided to use the Fashionable Hearts Embosslit from the Occasions Mini and run it through my Big Shot a few times. I used Soft Suede as the “base” and then inserted various challenge colour hearts. I really like this look.

For a bit of added pop I added a Bitty Button.

This would be a great card to showcase at a workshop, don’t you think?

To finish it off, I added a sentiment stamped in Soft Suede from Delightful Dozen and added a little extra heart….just ’cause.

Hope you like today’s design and make sure you check out the KA-POW Kreative Challenge page for more great projects and to play along!

KA-POW Kreative Challenge Super Squad (KKC08)

Who loves to be inspired? I do! This week’s KKC challenge was all about inspiration and we loved what we saw. A huge thank you to Cindy Major who was our guest designer this week!

The next KKC challenge will be on January 10th and is sure to not disappoint. Make sure you come on by!

This week we had some great designs, here are our choices for Sidekicks:

Robbyn W

Jenny Engelke

And for Superhero this week, our favourite was:

Laura Haffke

Laura’s cards are so crisp, I love her style. On this card, I especially love the perfect bow and adorable tiny tag with the little flower and pearl accent. The triple layer punch flowers make perfect tiles and would be a great make and take card.

My vote also goes to Laura H.  Her card really caught my eye.  It’s so crisp and clean.  I really like the bow and the teeny weeny tag just finishes the design right off.  She totally rocked this challenge!

Now why didn’t I think of this? I love how Laura emulated the tiled effect with the punch and white squares. The bow is perfectly proportioned and the little tag is the perfect added touch.

Sale-A-Bration Squared (KKC08)

WOW – I have been a bad blogger lately! But forgive me, between the holidays, work and a trip to Mexico, I think a break was necessary!

Today I’m super excited to show you some new products just in time for a new KKC Challenge!

The base for this card is Pool Party and I’ve layered it with some Cherry Cobbler and then a layer of Pool party which I made a squared texture on it (to mimic the tiles in the inspiration photo) using my Simply Scored.

I again played with the tiles and made my own four in the centre. I used the SAB stamp set, Freshly Vintage and stamped the image in Pool Party, punched it out and added a little centre stamped with Cherry Cobbler.

Behind this layer I added a little tie of Pool Party Baker’s twine (kinda like having a towel in the bathroom photo, no?).

Underneath, I added a sentiment from Loving Thoughts which I stamped in Basic Gray (a la the bathroom tap in the photo).

This was a fun card to make and I was super happy to get back into the craft room and play with my stamping products again!

I do hope you’ll join in the fun at the KA-POW Kreative Challenge this week, head on over the official page and see who is Guest Designing for us this month!

Sketches can be such fun and I’m so thrilled to see the challenge cards this week. Another BIG thank you to Brandi Wiggins-Cote for joining us this week as guest designer – she certainly did not disappoint!

The next KKC challenge will post on 27th as there are a few on the DT who will be away – thank you for your patience and I hope you’ll join us when we’re back.

It was a landslide this week for Superhero this week:

Jenny Engelke

Her card is beautiful.  I love her use of non-traditional Xmas colours on an Xmas card.  The textured bulbs are so adora-bulb!

Jenny’s use of colours and clever interpretation of the staggered embellishments from the sketch with her Christmas lights is adorable. Love the lil touches of silver glimmer paper and sentiment in various colours –they just top it off!! Well done!

I like the Christmas tree lights the best: I love the embossed bulbs, such a “bright” idea!

Festival of Flowers (KKC07)

Today is time for another KA-POW Kreative Challenge!  I got a little flower crazy with this one and, honestly, I’m super happy I did! Make sure you check out the official KA-POW Kreative Challenge page for some great design team samples!

The base for this card is Crumb Cake and I’ve layered it with another layer of Crumb Cake that was embossing with the Tulip Border and then sponged with Soft Suede.

Next, I added some Early Espresso and a layer of Lucky Limeade. On this layer, I’ve added a BUNCH of flowers. I cut them out with my Big Shot and the Fun Flowers die. I also used the Boho Blossoms punch and various embellishments (pearls, bitty buttons).

In keeping with the sketch, I added a ruffle of crochet lace and then a sentiment up top from Style Beautiful.

I’d love to see what you can come up with using this great sketch! Play along with us at KKC this week, won’t you?

KA-POW Kreative Challenge Super Squad (KKC06)!

I know inspiration challenges can be hard and hopefully next time we’ll have a few more players…..but, I wanted to showcase both of the players we had this week because they have both been such a wonderful addition to this challenge.

Both Jenny and Laura have played with (I think if memory serves me correctly) EVERY challenge we’ve done at KKC. That is just awesome! I am so thrilled they are enjoying what we are putting out there.

Now, make sure you join us next week – our first Guest Designer will be joining us for an awesome sketch challenge! Who might it be……….

Because of that, I’ve decided that they are BOTH Superheroes this week! :

Jenny Engelke

I really liked how she used embossing folders on the three different colored panels on the front of her card.

I love the rocket ship. Jenny did a great job combing two challenges in one very special card.

Between the panels, the colours and and the dots, it’s hard to find something I don’t love about this card!

Laura Haffke

I love the clean, simple lines of her card… and the pinwheels were so dear… I am SO going to make one of them soon… or two, or three!

I like the simple pinwheel card–it’s a classic and love the coordinating envelope.

Pinwheels. What else is there to say? I love how the colours pop on the white background!

Brilliant Bunch (KKC06)

It’s KA-POW Kreative Challenge time again! I love being inspired by images – there are always colours, textures, shapes. So many different ways to interpret them.

I decided on my card that I wanted to the images and colours to pop so I used a Whisper White background which is then layered on a Whisper White card base. I used the Stripes embossing folder on the upper layer.

In keeping with the stripes in those cool jello cups from the inspiration picture, I used the It’s a Wrap stamp set and stamped the same image three times, cut them out and adhered them over some Real Red satin ribbon with dimensionals.

I made a Real Red bow and in the centre added a 1/2″ circle of Tempting Turquoise with a Daffodil Delight button in the centre.

These colours and the inspiration picture have so many great interpretations, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Head on over to the KA-POW Kreative Challenge official page and play along! Make sure you check back too, there are some fun and exciting changes coming for KKC very soon!

KA-POW Kreative Challenge Super Squad (KKC05)!

We loved seeing what everyone did with this week’s sketch – thanks for playing! After much backroom discussion, our talented Super Squadron has picked the following Sidekicks:

Jenny Engelke

I love how she created a baby card from the colour challenge, the layers, the star and button!

I love polka dots, so I how the 3 red eyelets echo those polka dots on the cute DP and I like all the textures.

I loved Jenny’s pleated seam binding!

I love Jenny’s take on the challenge – although she brilliantly used all the colours of course… her POPs of red are what jump at me. I adore her Snowman tucked into the glittery snowy mounds as well

Laura Haffke

A great job watercolouring, nice neat and clean card.

Who doesn’t love a cute snowman and I’m addicted to the look of the sea binding: good choice!

Absolutely awesome!

And lastly, our newly crowned Super Hero this week is:

Mindy Backes

Here is what the KA-POW Kreative Challenge team had to say about Mindy’s creation:

Love the snow drifts with glitter, the bright red button in the snow burst!
I love the Snow Much Fun set, but what really made it stand out for me was that this chubby little guy was really made the centre of attention by layering him on the circle panel.

I love how the colours work on her card and adore the button inside the embossed snowflake.

I can almost feel the chilly air and blowing snow. That snowman is just screaming holiday season. I love the inside shading, just makes it pop!

I Love the turkey card! Great colors, super cute expression on the turkey and the idea of using the ribbons for the tail was very creative–I love the variety of ribbons too.

I loved that little gobbler and his ribbon feathers.  He was so adorable, and the card was clean and simple which I love!  Sandra did a great job!

I LOVE Sandie’s Turkey Card – it is so creative and original. I love her colour choices, the polka dots in all different DSPs and esp his turkey
waddle – too flippin cute!!

LOVE the ribbon details and the colour palette.  It’s so nicely executed too!!!!

KA-POW Kreative Challenge Super Squad (KKC03)!

What fun we had this week at the KA-POW Kreative Challenge! We were thrilled to have more players this week and look forward to things growing even more!  After much backroom discussion, our talented Super Squadron has picked the following Sidekicks:

Jenny Engelke

Such fun with the dots! The texture of this card is AMAZING!

Laura Haffe

It’s a La Dee Dah Day

I love her take on the colours using it as a winter/christmas card – I never would have thought to do that!  I like the double mat of the lacey corner punch, the mica flakes and all the rhinestones!  Really cool card.

Mindy Backes

Canopy Crafts

I really like Mindy’s the best. I love the clean simple design and how she pulled the purple flower out and put that cute polka dot brad on in the center. I love that little orange scallop border too.

And lastly, our newly crowned Super Hero this week is:

Michelle VanWiggeren!

Michelle’s Great Paper Chase

Here is what the KA-POW Kreative Challenge team had to say about Michelle’s creation:

These colours were a bit of a challenge but Michelle did them all justice. By playing around with the colours and various patterns, she made them all look awesome. And that little layered button is FABULOUS!

I love Michelle’s card because it just makes me happy. It is so bright and full of joy without going over the top and being too busy. I love the blocks of DSP but of course, was instantly drawn to and blown away by her layers in the flower. I never would’ve considered putting it ALL together like that but WOW she has made it work and look spectacular. Just so clever!!
