Scallop Boxes – Oh My!

I just love making boxes! They are so much fun and just have enough “oomph” to feel like you’ve accomplished a pretty big task when they are actually quite simple. Shhhh, don’t tell! :0)

This particular box was made for my latest Rubber Side SuperHero Shoebox Swap (wow, that is a long event name!).

For the top and bottom, I used heavy cardboard and Marina Mist cardstock. I cut both the cardstock and cardboard together with my Sizzix Big Shot so they’d match perfectly! I did two (one for the top and one for the bottom). I adhered the cardstock with an Anywhere Glue Stick.

For the box portion itself, I used a 5 1/2″ x 10″ piece of Crumb Cake cardstock. I scored in 1″ from every side and then at 4 1/2″ and 5 1/2″ for the middle folds. I made it this size so the inside of the box is 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. That way, you could put a nice little set of 3″ x 3″ cards as a great hostess gift. When it is completed, it looks like this:

To make it so the box closes nicely, I actually cut off the top folds and add a 3/4″ half circle in the bottom. Hard to describe but makes sense, no?

For the outside of the box, we embossed the large flower from the Level 1 hostess set, Because I care. We used Versamark and Black Embossing powder. We then coloured the flower in with bleach and a Blender Pen and then watercoloured using Marina Mist and Old Olive ink. For a little bling, we added a clear rhinestone brad. This is layered on a piece of Early Espresso.

For the tag, I cut out an Early Espresso tag with my Sizzix Big Shot and the Lots of Tags Sizzlet. I then punched out a Curly Label in Old Olive and cut it down to fit. Then I added a Modern Label in Whisper White on which I’d stamped a saying in Basic Black ink and sponged with Old Olive.

Give these boxes a try! They are quick and simple and are perfect for any occasion.
