Beach Journal

My kids and I were at the beach the other day (we spend every other day there during the summer) and my daughter kept asking a bunch of questions about why things are as they are. So, I told her to write them down and we’d make a book of questions, answers and pictures of beach-stuff and she could take it to school as her ‘what I did on my vacation’ type thing in the fall.

I couldn’t just give her a little book that didn’t look totally cute, could I?

This is just a journal from the local dollar store. I like them because the cover is thick and neutral coloured so it’ll match almost anything. The only drawback? The wires are too close together to use the spiral punch….

I started with a piece of Purely Pomegranate cardstock as my base. I then stamped my Paisley background on to some River Rock cardstock in River Rock ink. I sponged the edges and paper pierced using my Close to Cocoa marker to “stitch”.

The bottom dotted paper is a piece of Cutie Pie designer paper and over the seam I added a piece of striped Wasabi grosgrain.

The ‘s’ piece is a 1 3/8″ circle of Wasabi cardstock with a chipboard ‘s’ from Lots of Letters Chipboard. I sponged it with white craft ink and embossed it using clear embossing powder. The large circle of chipboard around it was treated the same way only with Rose Red craft ink instead of white.

I used my Everyday Flexible Phrases stamp set and word window punch to add the words ‘summer’, ‘special’, ‘vacation’ and tied them on to the spirals using some linen thread and striped Wasabi grosgrain.

My last step is going to be applying a spray sealer as this little baby is going to be at the beach A LOT!
